MLD - for allergy sufferers
April 2026
Hey Y'all!
Spring has finally sprung! The birds are chirping, daffodils are starting to shoot up and for those with seasonal allergies, the congestion and sore throats have begun! If you suffer from seasonal allergies, or have been sick at all with a lingering cough or congestion after this winter. I beg you to consider manual lymphatic drainage to drain your face! I recently suffered a terrible upper respiratory infection that ended up in my right ear! I had no idea it had moved in and set up shop.. there was no pain or pressure. After 2 weeks of missed work and a round of antibiotics, I started to improve, although I still had a week or so of draining sinuses/lungs and a crappy cough to get through. Sarah and I trade 90 minute sessions once a month and she suggested that after that sickness, we work on clearing out the lymph passages that drain my face, neck and ear, as after an infection, those lymph ducts can become overwhelmed. We spent nearly 45 minutes working on my face, ears and neck, and when I stood up, I felt clear-like I had never been sick, and the next 24 hours-not to be gross, but- huge globs of stuff leaving my face. It was disgusting, but also SO satisfying to feel truly clear and light afterwards. This experience inspired our newsletter this quarter.. so, I'm going to hand it over to Sarah to explain the mechanism of congestion and how we can manually intervene to relieve some of your allergies.
Hey guys! I'm excited to share with you how I can bring some relief to your allergy season with a Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) session. Let me explain how: When allergens enter our body our immune system sees them as invaders, like it does with bacteria and viruses. When the body detects invaders it sends white blood cells and other fighters cells to the area. The inflammatory process begins and that is what shows up as congestion, sore throats, and post nasal drip, etc. The lymphatic system is in charge of processing all those used white blood cells and picking up all the excess interstitial fluid that is causing that inflammation. Unfortunately, when our body is constantly fighting off allergens, our lymphatic system simply can't keep up with the demand and inflammation builds and backs up our lymphatic system. This is where we can intervene! Manual Lymphatic Drainage gently facilitates the lymph nodes to process fluid at a quicker rate and helps to clear the lymphatic ducts to further help the lymphatic system move properly. After an MLD session clients often feel immediate relief in the pressure of the sinuses that can last for days! As an allergy sufferer myself, MLD has been a game changer! The dreaded congestion and sinus headaches that used to keep me in bed don't feel so daunting when I have this self care tool to manage it! With a quick 5-10 minutes of MLD work on my sinuses I already feel worlds better. So, if you are suffering this spring with allergies there is no need to suffer any longer! Come on in to see me and I am happy to do all I can to help you breathe easy this spring!- Sarah
